U.S.E. – River of Love

U.S.E.

If you’re in DC and the rainy weather has gotten you down, put on your headphones and take a listen on U.S.E.’s pop-electro smash “River of Love”. The aptly named United State of Electronica released an LP in August titled LOVEWORLD with some pretty danceable tracks. They’re a splash of Alphabeat with a pinch of Daft Punk. This song just gets me going, puts a little hop in my step…hope it does the same for you!

Apparat – Arcadia

Apparat

This song was recently featured on So You Think You Can Dance in a routine about two fallen angels. So far it’s been my second favorite performance of this season, a position it wouldn’t have been in without this song.

I know there are people who won’t give this a second listen, but that’s what it takes. And a third and a fourth. It grows on your ears like vines on a wall. It’s 5 minutes and 10 seconds that your brain is being taken over by these sounds, this melodic voice that you know is saying things but the vines have now become too thick to make out any words. The back and forth sawing in the beginning sounds like the song is going to feed on you, sink it’s teeth in and not let go. It’s one of those trippy atmospheric tracks that’s usually playing in the background while some semi-hot girl loses her virginity in an indie film.

On a personal note, thanks for making Monday my highest traffic day since I’ve started this blog, 150 unique visits. It may not sound like a lot, but considering I had just over 250 hits the entire first month, I’m pretty happy. I do it for you guys :-)

Lady Gaga – The Fame Monster

Monster

Here are all eight tracks of Lada Gaga’s supplement to her debut album, The Fame. If you follow this blog regularly then you should already have four of the tracks on your iPod. “Monster” is an upbeat song that could find it’s way onto the dancefloor, although competing with “Bad Romance” and “Telephone” might be difficult to get any play. This will probably be released as a single at some point. I’d dance to it. “Speechless” plays with the same sort of sound that “Brown Eyes” had, it’s a bit too similar actually. It’s a Gaga ballad, not what she’s known for It also sounds a bit country, interesting direction she took with this. “So Happy I Could Die” is more of a mid-temp jam that’s smooth and rolls along nicely. She closes with “Teeth” where she interjects the main lyrics with muted one liners which makes me think of Madonna’s “Justify My Love”. It’s a really catchy beat that has some Southern influences and kinda makes me want to get up and stomp around. What’s your favorite song off The Fame Monster?

Lady Gaga – Telephone (feat. Beyonce)

lady Bebe

Lady Gaga and Beyonce (Lady Bebe) have collaborated to bring you two new songs. This was leaked yesterday, so I’m not sure if the track is complete as is or if it’ll be tweaked a bit for radio release. Either way, it’s a pretty wicked song. The bass is heavy, production is solid, and Beyonce nails her part. Can’t wait for the video! And speaking of video, Beyonce released a song called “Videophone” featuring Lady Gaga as well…I’ll post that on Monday for everyone (but this track is much better).

OneRepublic – Waking Up (full album download)

OneRepublic

1. Made For You
2. All The Right Moves
3. Secrets
4. Everybody Loves Me
5. Missing Persons 1 & 2
6. Good Life
7. All This Time
8. Fear
9. Waking Up
10. Marchin On
11. Lullaby

Here is OneRepublic’s new album which will officially drop on November 17th. It’s produced by Timbaland and has the same underlying feel as Dreaming Out Loud (why mess with a good thing?). They have skewed slightly to a more alt side then going pop, but it works. There are also some really great instrumental “interludes” they throw in that take you by surprise and are really quite engaging. It’s a good sophomore album with catchy tracks that will have you singing along while folding laundry or walking around the city.

Leighton Meester – Somebody to Love (feat. Robin Thicke)

Leighton

On the eve of Connor Jackson’s thirtieth birthday, he looked out onto the silver city and he wondered where she was…where she was and what she was doing. If she was speaking or if she was silent; if she was already in bed or out on the town laughing into the night. He wondered, not for the first time, how he would meet this woman. Claire Harrison. Her name had come to him in a dream, 17 years ago, when he was 13 years old. The dream told him that her name would be Claire Harrison, and he would meet her when he was thirty years old. She was five foot seven, with wavy hair to her shoulders. She had a slender face, dark eyes, soft hands; she smelled of lilac and wooden gates. His dream told him Claire Harrison was an anthropologist, specializing in the Sami people of Finland. She spoke English, French, Finnish, and a touch of Italian. She liked oversized coats, dark chocolate and the smell of rain. Connor Jackson shut his eyes and instantly heard her voice, the way it had sounded 17 years ago. “There you are,” she had said in the dream, like things finally made sense. She was his true love, that much he knew. She wore a blue dress and held a book under her arm. “There you are.” Connor Jackson lived in an apartment overlooking the busy city. He was six feet even and collected first editions of Dante’s Paradiso. He was a curator at a museum, a job he loved. He had been with three other women since he dreamt of Claire Harrison. They were all distant memories now. Once, out of drunken loneliness, four years ago, Connor Jackson had searched Claire’s name on the internet. As the search engine displayed the results, he looked for only the briefest moment. He saw the words anima gemella on the screen before closing the window. Somehow it had seemed like cheating. But tonight, alone in his apartment, Connor Jackson looked out over the silver city and he wondered whether Claire Harrison knew he was coming.

Lady Gaga – Dance In the Dark (new song)

Gaga

Here is a leaked track from Gaga’s The Fame Monster album she’s releasing soon. So far I’ve been underwhelmed by this new material. I hope these aren’t all scraps from the studio floor or B-sides she just wants to release to put something out there. I don’t think she’d go that way but money is money. Here’s to hoping “Videophone” will kick the sh*t out of my speakers…
