Hey everyone out there on the interwebs! Just back from my week in the sun in the Canary Islands, unfortunately it wasn’t all fun. Just 2 days of fun in the sun after 5 VERY long days of field work.
I will try to get some new music from my back log of new music up as soon as I have reacclimated to East Coast time! In the mean time, something sunny & fun for the time before my tan quickly fades and summer starts to come to a close.

The Hoosiers – Choices

Make bad commercials or suffer the consequences of a Hong Kong mob syndicate. Clever, quirky and creative are the three words I think of when I see the video for the The Hoosiers ‘Choices’. This makes complete sense from the band that claims in makes “Odd Pop”, drawing on influences ranging from the The Cure, Jeff Buckley, The Flaming Lips to XTC. I will leave you to decide if ‘Choices’ is indeed “Odd Pop”, or just great pop.

Sadly Charlie Haddon, lead singer of Ou Est Le Swimming Pool, has taken his own life at the age of 22. In honor of the great work he and the band have done, take a look and listen to a few of their videos. I am truly sad to hear this news, it is sad when anyone takes their own life, but even more sad when someone as talented and with as much potential as Charlie ends their life all too soon.

I do truly hope they release their debut album in October, as planned, a fitting tribute to a very talented artist.
Look out summer dance song 2010, you are about to be shoved aside for the new hot track for the fall. Let me introduce you to what will be your guilty dance pleasure; that is until the next barely clothed, slightly auto-tuned, and self-promoting broad comes along. Now I say all this with love, as I do really love this song. And Erika Jayne is just as talented as the next dance song diva and ‘Pretty Mess’ is as instantly catchy and addictive as one can hope for from a dancefloor super hit. Within 3 days of first being introduced to the song by my friend Ben, who I am still not sure if I should thank or slap, I have been hooked on it like Whitney on, well, you know what.
Take a listen and be prepared to get sucked, shamelessly into Erika’s ‘Pretty Mess.’

Alesha Dixon – Drummer Boy

Many of you may not know Alesha Dixon, but you may remember the group Mis-Teeq and their 2004 hit ‘Scandalous‘. Alesha went solo in 2006 after the break up of Mis-Teeq and is about to release her third solo album with the lead off single ‘Drummer Boy’. With each listen the song has grown on me, it fits somewhere between a high-energy step squad routine and an all-out big band swing club. I dare you not to feel your energy level shoot up when you hear this song.

Made just for all of us fans by the guys and gal of Alphabeat themselves, here is their latest video for ‘Heat Wave’. Which is a great track and perfect fit for the end of summer, as most of here are trapped in the middle of the humidity soup that is August in Washington, DC.
Well it is a day chock full of Example! Really this is all helping me get through a gray Tuesday here in D.C. The new video for ‘Last Ones Standing’ hit the interwebs today. It is an homage to 80′s detective films with just the right amount of campy goodness, not to mention gratuitous flipping.
