I’m taking a short break in my Freemasons Week to bring you MGMT’s sophomore album Congratulations. I gave this a quick run-through last night and was a bit disappointed with what I heard. After the quick 9 song album was over, I didn’t remember one catchy hook or even a song that could be deemed a single. My ears perked up a bit at the album’s title track and I do need to listen to the epic 12 minute “Siberian Breaks” again. However, there is definitely no “Time to Pretend”, “Kids”, or even “Electric Feel” song here. I was hoping for at least one. So far, the best thing about this album is the artwork. I will give it a few more spins and see if I can understand their direction. Until then, give it a listen and let me know what your favorite song is.

There have been several covers of “Electric Feel” but I think this one is by far the finest. Swedish band Cleast Eatwood takes one of the highlights from Oracular Spectacular and completely strips it down to its shell. What was once a falsetto disco romp with a steady spiky fuzzy sounding bass has morphed into an acoustic-like drreamscape filled with haunting, echoing vocals that layer over each other gorgeously. For those of you who love the MGMT version, prepare to be shocked.
