In a year of great music it was pretty hard to narrow down my favorite songs of the year, but after multiple edits I think I’m pretty happy with my final list.
Comments are welcome and appreciated, let me know what you think, what I may have missed, and what your #1 song of the year was. One EskimO – Kandi
Oct 27

One EskimO is a pet project headed up by uber-producer Rollo (who is Dido’s older brother and behind the animations for Gorillaz) and UK pop star Kristian Leontiou. Much like Gorillaz, the band stars four animated characters in their videos, who are pretty damn cute.
The whole album is about 50 minutes of pretty chill coffee-house listening with the standout track being “Kandi”. I found the title interesting since they don’t actually use it in the song, but it actually stems from the artist of the song they sample. Candi Staton’s “He Called Me Baby” is used perfectly as the response to Leontiou’s heartbreaking plead of, “What did he do? What did he say?” The lyrics are simple yet emotive, calling to mind that sometimes a reason for leaving can actually be straightforward and uncomplicated. The words are punctuated by the guitar pluck and drum beat that permeate through the song adding as much feeling as the vocals. This track has been on repeat…all night long.
